This will loosen the tension on the deadbolt allowing it to retract and the door to open.

Lubricate the hinges with silicone spray or 3 in 1 oil. Loosen them a turn to relax the tension. If either does not operate when the door is open the hardware needs to be replaced. I cannot open my pella storm door step 1.

The pella contact suggested removing the screw cover strip on the latch side and removing the 5 screws holding the latch side trim.
